Looking for places to go to get your party on? Here’s a roundup of Berlin’s best bars and clubs.
Berlin is one of the most fun cities to visit. It has so much to offer, with top tourist attractions and amazing food – but one thing Berlin is maybe most famous for is its nightlife. Berlin is one of the best places to go if you’re into partying; it’s home to some of the world’s best nightclubs and bars. Clubbing in Berlin has become a lifestyle in and of itself, and is a must-try for everyone visiting the city. You can party straight from Friday night through Monday morning, and below, we’ve put together a list of some of Berlin’s best bars and clubs for your night (or weekend) out.
Berghain is probably the most well-known club in Berlin. It is famous worldwide for its techno music. Located inside an abandoned power plant, Berghain is home to 2 clubs: Berghain, where you can dance the night away to techno music, and Panorama Bar, where you can take a break from the rager that is Berghain for a drink or two and chill out to house music.
Heads up: while Berghain makes the top of our list of clubs to go to in Berlin, be aware that it’s super tough to get in to. Bouncers are really strict: there’s a good chance you won’t get in if you’re too drunk or acting too “silly” in line. Go in smaller groups, and arrive sober, and you’ll have a better chance of getting in.
Bar: Fairytale Bar
Fairytale Bar is one of Berlin’s secret bars. Like most secret bars in Berlin, the entrance is hard to find: it’s appropriately located across from the Fountain of Fairytales in the Volspark Friedrichstain. Look for a simple, bare door with a doorbell. Ring the doorbell, and Alice will let you answer. That’s right, Fairytale Bar will transport you to another world, just like you’ve stepped through Alice’s looking glass. From bar staff dressed in costumes to secret doors and pop-up book menus, fairy tale-inspired decor adds to the whimsical atmosphere of this bar. Cocktails are creative and eclectic; our must-try recommendation? The Cinderella made with vodka, champagne, and elderflower and served in a shoe.
Tresor is the biggest techno club in Berlin. It’s been around since the unification of Germany and paved the way for Berghain and other big techno clubs. Similar to Berghain, Tresor is also located in an abandoned power plant and boasts several different dance floors, so you can choose whichever one suits your mood the best. Getting in isn’t easy, and be prepared to wait in lines, but once you’re inside, it’s well worth it, as Tresor is hands-down one of the Berlin’s best bars and clubs.
Bar: House of Weekend Roof Garden
What list of Berlin’s best bars and clubs would be complete without a rooftop location? House of Weekend is a favorite of Berliner’s during the summer – it’s one of the best places to go for the ~views~. This rooftop bar has amazing panoramic views of Berlin! Come for a pre-dinner drink, or stay for a bit of rooftop clubbing to, you guessed it, techno music. It’s only open on the weekends, so make sure you work it into your schedule so you don’t miss out!
If you’re looking for a place with great music from the world’s top DJs, Watergate is the spot for you. A bit fancier than the above-mentioned spots, Watergate has floor-to-ceiling windows that give a great panoramic view of the Spree. The large windows make this a great spot to watch the sunrise in the morning! The night starts out a bit more chill, and the techno music builds throughout the night. Watergate is 21+, so make sure you take this into consideration before deciding to go. No one likes to get turned away!
Bar: Club der Visionaere
Rounding out our list of Berlin’s best bars and clubs is another famous bar, Club der Visionaere. This riverside bar is located on a canal between Kreuzberg and Treptower Park. They play electronic music in the background and host a small dance floor. Club der Visionaere is famous for its Sunday afternoon parties: it’s a great after-hours spot for your post-club experience, to have those last few drinks or enjoy a slice of pizza. A must-visit in the summer, it’s one of the best places to go to finish your night…or weekend…of partying.
So there you go – a list of some of our favorite bars and clubs to visit during your time in Berlin. But of course, there are so many more options out there!
